This morning Mayor Walter Maddox announced his appointment of Steve Anderson as the new Chief of Police for the City of Tuscaloosa. Chief Anderson will replace Chief Ken Swindle, who has led the Tuscaloosa Police Department (TPD) for the past 18 years.

The City of Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be sweeping the following general areas the week of August 18, 2008: College Hills, Oak Ridge, Washington Square, Westfield, Warrick Estates (1-B) Ridgeland, North Hampton, Riverchase, Wellington (3-D) Hillsdale, Lynn Haven, Summerfield, Green Acres (5-A) Beech Hills, Mayfair, Shannon Drive, 18th Street East (6-A-2)
The City of Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation advises that the 25th Avenue E. bridge will be closed immediately due to structural damage. Kansas City Southern Railway Company, which owns the bridge, is currently designing the replacement structure. To expedite a replacement, the city has committed significant funding for this project. KCS anticipates construction beginning spring 2008 and to be completed by winter 2009. TDOT has established a detour route along Kicker Road.
The City of Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation advises that 23rd Avenue between 6th Street and 7th Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 6:00 AM , Monday, September 24, 2007, for an indefinite period of time. This road closure will continue during the demolition of buildings in the area and the new parking deck construction.
The City of Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation advises that 6th Street between 22nd Avenue and 23rd Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning at 7:00 AM , Monday, August 13, 2007, for an indefinite period of time. This road closure will continue until the City Hall Annex 3 and the new parking deck construction is complete.
The City of Tuscaloosa Engineering Department submits a map of the excluded area for the Sanitary Sewer Policy.
