MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CITY ENGINEER

REPAVING PROJECT

WORK ZONE TRAFFIC CONTROL ANNOUNCEMENT

The Office of the City Engineer advises that the City’s inspector, TTL, has announced the areas of the City that S. T. Bunn will be repaving the remainder of this week. They are: They will finish up the area of 15th Street between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue (Hackberry Lane) on Friday. They will also be working on 10th Avenue starting at 17th Street and proceeding in a southerly direction toward 29th Street on Friday (March 19th) and will continue milling and paving in this area most of next week (both directions). These areas will have at least one lane of traffic at all times and flagmen will be in the area. The hours of work in these areas will be from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. All timetables are dependent on the weather. If at all possible, please avoid these work zones as there will be delays.

DOWNTOWN URBAN REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT

WORK ZONE TRAFFIC CONTROL ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Office of the City Engineer advises that the City’s contractor, GFC, will extend the closure of 21st Avenue from just north of University Boulevard to the ABC Store Access Drive through Friday, March 26, 2010. They will also extend the closures of 7th Street from 21st Avenue to 22nd Avenue, 6th Street from 21st Avenue to 22nd Avenue and 21st Avenue from just south of University Blvd. to 7th Street. These closure extensions are due to the weather and are needed in order to complete the curb, base and paving in this area.

Please be mindful of these work zone traffic control changes during your daily travels.

TDOT STREET SWEEPING SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF March 22, 2010
The City of Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation will be sweeping the following general areas the week of March 22, 2010.

Forest Lake Area, from Hackberry Lane to McFarland Blvd., from 15th St. to Hargrove Rd. (2-D)

Guildswood, Sherwood, Pinehurst (3-F)

Green Acres, Summerfield, Lynn Haven, Hillsdale (5-A)

Woodland Hills (Central), Woodland Hills Dr., Somerset Place, Azalea Lane, Windermere Dr., Firethorn Dr. (6-B-2)

In order to allow the sweepers to do a thorough job, please refrain from parking on the street in these areas this week.

Extreme caution - AL Hwy 69/Skyland Blvd (US 11S)
The City of Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation advises that motorists should use extreme caution in the location of AL Hwy 69/Skyland Blvd (US 11S) intersection. This advisory is due to the installation of new traffic signals. The work zone area will consist of slow moving vehicles and personnel on the ground between the hours of 8:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. continuing through the end of March, 2010.
