CITY OF TUSCALOOSA
COMMEMORATIVE  BENCH  PROGRAM

The Commemorative Bench Program provides an opportunity for citizens to recognize or commemorate a friend, family member, organization or special occasion or to remember a loved one by placing a bench in a city park, in the Downtown Tuscaloosa area or along the Black Warrior Riverwalk for others to see and enjoy.  Each bench provided will be a welcome addition to the City of Tuscaloosa and will improve the overall aesthetic appearance and the enjoyment of public spaces in this community.

Bench Donation Guidelines

The person or group donating a bench will decide upon the location of the bench within one of the following recommended public locations:

        • Annette Shelby Park
        • J. Oviatt Bowers Park
        • Capitol Park
        • A. L. Freeman Park
        • Black Warrior Riverwalk
        • Downtown Tuscaloosa
        • Jack Warner Parkway – Park East
        • Jack Warner Parkway – Park West
        • Jaycee Park
        • Snow Hinton Park

The Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation and the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority will work with the donor to determine the final location of a bench and the total price depending on the location.  Once an order for a bench has been placed and processed, the Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation will order the bench and the plaque with the chosen inscription.  The donor will be notified after the bench has been installed. The Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation or the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the bench after installation.

The style of bench selected is shown in the pictures below and is the same bench already installed in several locations along the Black Warrior Riverwalk. The bench will be made of steel and cast iron with a black polyester powder finish and will be secured in concrete.  Each bench will be six feet in length and will include a custom plaque (two inches by ten inches) with up to four lines of text denoting the dedication.
